Celtic Compass Cross
Wood and Metal Celtic Cross, Welsh Celtic Bible, Nepalese Paper, Waxed Linen Thread, Ethiopian Coptic Stitching
Artist Statement: The Celtic cross is a religious symbol, with various meanings, found all over Ireland, Scotland, Britain, and Wales. The majority of the people who use the Celtic cross symbol today are Christian, but many people also display the Celtic cross as a symbol of their Irish, Scottish, or Welsh heritage. The main feature of the Celtic Cross is the ring surrounding the four arms. For some the cross and ring is considered a symbolic compass and represents spiritual navigation. In this analogy the Celtic Cross can serve as a guidepost that always leads us to our “true north.” Or, when we find ourselves tossed by tumultuous seas of life, the symbolic attributes of the cross can re-center our focus on Christ and move our thoughts in the right direction.
