Guide Stone
Medium: Ancient Native American Trail Marker Stone, 1800’s English Bible, Mesquite Wood Cross, Vintage Native American Blanket, Nepalese Paper, Waxed Linen Thread, Ethiopian Coptic Stitching, Vintage Turquoise Button Covers
Artist Statement: This piece centers on a rare and ancient Native American directional stone used to mark trails for others to follow. The stone mounted on a cross with attached altered antique Bible serves as a metaphor for how God’s Word provides guidance and direction: “For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end” (Psalm 48:24). “Your word is a lamp to my feet and light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).
*Guide Stone was awarded “The Viewer’s Choice Award” at the 2019 “Mapmaker” Exhibit at the Fuller Lodge Art Gallery in Los Alamos, New Mexico
