Medium: 200 Year Old Deerskin Torah Scroll Fragment from Jewish Persia Mounted on White Oak, Hand Forged Iron Nails, Hand Embroidered Yellow Star of David Holocaust Badge, 1858 Hebrew Bible, Nepalese Paper, Waxed Linen Thread, Coptic Stitching
Artist Statement: The hand embroidered Yellow Star of David holocaust badge was required to be worn by all Jews in WWII Nazi occupied Europe. The juxtaposition of three Hebrew Religious Symbols, the Torah, the Hebrew Bible, and the Star of David holocaust badge is a stark and painful reminder of how prone we are to unjustly label people of different faiths and races. This Torah Scroll fragment appropriately covers Deuteronomy 16, which speaks to “Judges and Justice.”
