Rule for Life
Medium: Antique Rulers on Cedar Logs and Base, 19th Century German Bible, Waxed Linen Thread, Nepalese Paper, Ethiopian Coptic stitching
Artist Statement: This structure features a vintage altered Bible bridging two cedar posts covered with antique folding wood carpenter rulers. The title is a metaphor for how the Bible shows that God through his son, Jesus the Carpenter, provides rules for an abundant and eternal life. The word “rule” comes from the Latin word, “regula”, a system, boundaries or railings. A Rule of Life for Christians consists not of a set of rules to restrict life, but rather a set of spiritual disciplines, practices, and habits that provide a framework of freedom to live daily as Christ lived.
