Triumphant Lamb of God
Medium: Church Architectural Carved Wood Plaque, 1800’s German Bible, Nepalese Paper, Waxed Linen Thread, Ethiopian Coptic Stitching
Artist Statement: This hand carved wooden plaque was found in the New York studio of well-known liturgical artist, Joseph Noe, upon his death in 1994. It most likely dates from the 1940’s. Holy Scripture refers to Jesus as “the Lamb of God”. The Lamb symbolizes purity and innocence. Here the Lamb is pictured with a flag, which symbolizes Jesus’ victory over death through his resurrection.
