Hangnails

Medium: Rusted Barn Nails; 19th Century Rusted Nail Spikes, Stained Cedar Logs, 19th Century German Bible, Nepalese Paper, Waxed Linen Thread, Ethiopian Coptic Stitching

Artist Statement: This technique of book art is referred to as “bridge art” because the altered antique Bible is supported by and bridges two cedar posts. God’s Word, the Bible, uses imagery to suggest that Jesus serves as mediator, connector, redeemer, and bridge between God and a broken world. The rusted nails and spikes adhered to each post are emblematic of the suffering and death of Jesus on the cross. The cedar posts are symbolic of the support we receive from God through His Son, His Spirit, and His Holy Word.
