Jesucristo

Medium: Spanish Colonial Wood Cross, Antique Wood Rosary,1800’s English Bible, Nepalese Paper, Waxed Linen Thread, Ethiopian Coptic Stitching

Artist Statement: Spanish architecture and culture influenced the design of this cross and title, Jesucristo, the name Jesus Christ coming together in one word in the Spanish language. Jesus is the Greek form of the Hebrew name Joshua, which means “Savior.” “Christ” comes from the Greek word Christos, meaning “anointed” or “chosen one.” The vintage wood carved rosary draped on the cross between the altered English Bible is symbolic of the centuries old Roman Catholic practice of incorporating the rosary in meditation on the life of Jesus.
