Medium: Reclaimed Lumber Cross, 19th Century English Bible, Antique New Mexico License Plates, Waxed Linen Thread, Nepalese Paper, Ethiopian Coptic Stitching, Vintage Railroad Spikes
Artist Statement: A “license” comes from a higher authority and permits or authorizes the use or ownership of something. The combining of the weathered cross, an altered Bible, and the antique car license plates in this piece serves as a reminder that our highest authority, Jesus Christ, grants us permission to love the world as He does and the authority to go out in his name, assured of his power and presence.
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
