The Good Book
Medium: Altered 1819 German Bible, 1800’s Bible in Original Wood Bible Box, Wood Cross Covered with Bible Cover Strips, Antique Hardware, Nepalese Paper, Waxed Linen Thread, Ethiopian Coptic Stitching
Artist Statement: The Bible is the world’s most widely distributed book and is frequently referred to as “The Good Book.” The word Bible comes from the Greek word ta biblia, meaning “the books” because the Bible is actually the collection of 66 individual books. This unique piece incorporates multiple and different Bibles. Just as Jesus is the central figure in the Bible, the central feature of this piece is a large wood cross covered with Bible cover strips and an attached 1800’s altered German Bible resting on an 1800’s English Bible in its original protective wooden Bible Box.
