Medium: Douglas Fir Wood Cross, Antique Square Head Nails, 1800’s German Bible, Nepalese Paper, Waxed Linen Thread, Ethiopian Coptic Stitching.
Artist Statement: As symbols of the Christian faith, the nails of the crucifixion are emblematic of the suffering and death of Jesus. For many Christians, the nails that were driven into Jesus represent our sins. Later, the nails led to scars in Christ’s hands and feet which he presented to “doubting” Thomas in order to prove that he was the risen Messiah. These antique flat head nails adhered to a wood cross serve as a visual depiction of Christ’s self-sacrificing crucifixion.
